There may be some blue-eyed women out there who don’t bat a lash when it comes to applying makeup and using tricks that will bring out their eye colour, but most blue-eyed gals could likely use some tips about how to apply makeup for blue eyes and enhance the look of their azure peepers. Luckily, there are numerous ways to play up blue eyes – including using the right eye shadow and eyeliner shades; maximising the lashes; concealing under-eye circles; and priming the eyes. Let’s take a look.
Those blessed with blue eyes have countless options when it comes to choosing flattering makeup and eye shadow colours. For example, neutral makeup shades such as taupe, champagne, camel and even dark chocolate accentuate blue eyes. Also, colours such as pale pink, violet, gray, silver and, yes, even blue, complement blue eyes. Some women may balk at the idea of wearing blue eye shadow but the right shade can look trendy and emphasise blue eyes in a way no other colour can.
Eye Makeup Colours And Shadows
Luckily for you, on the market today there are loads of choices of makeup for blue eyes, including a range of eye shadow formulations in powder, cream and liquid forms. The benefit of the increasingly popular liquid shadow is that it goes on smoothly, dries quickly and lasts throughout the day. Powders remain the most popular type of eye makeup and come in a virtually endless range of colours, while cream shadows are easy to apply and have staying power. Before you apply any eye shadow colour, though, you should use a makeup base for eyes to prevent shadow from gathering and clumping in the eyelid crease.
Eyeliner For Blue Eyes
Eyeliner is yet another indispensable tool for enhancing blue eyes. Coloured eyeliners in brown, camel, taupe, light purple, lavender, silver and gray will all make the eyes look bluer. If you want your eyes to really pop, then select eyeliner shades such as dark brown and charcoal but steer clear of jet black shades. Eyeliners come in liquid makeup and pencil formulations, with liquid providing a dramatic look and pencil creating a softer look. You can also consider lining the inner rims of your eyes with a white kohl pencil, which will not only open up your eyes but make them appear brighter.
Even if you choose the best, most flattering makeup shades for blue eyes, eye shadows and liners, dark under-eye circles can ruin the whole look. The best way to disguise them is to apply concealer that will neutralise the colour of the circles. For example, if your circles are blue, use an orange concealer. Conversely, if your circles are purple, use a yellow concealer, and if your circles are red, go for an olive-based concealer. Those with brown circles should opt for a blue or mauve concealer.
Choose Your Mascara.
Yet another way to emphasise blue eyes with makeup is to maximise your lashes – with an eyelash curler and with lash curling mascara. Both products will transform stick-straight lashes into long, curled masterpieces, which will accentuate your blue eyes even more. For extra glamour, and to make your peepers really pop, try false eyelashes, which you can apply sparingly or as a full set for a high drama effect. Just make sure they match the line of your own lashes and trim them if necessary.
