I need to replace several parking floodlights, should I go with Metal halide, high pressure sodium or new LEDs?
I need to replace several parking lot flood lights. At several other apartment buildings I use high pressure sodium bulbs, which light very well, my question is should I continue to use these HPS bulbs or switch to another kind? I’ve heard LED have been used as floodlights, though I have yet to come across any information on purchasing them. Thanks for the advice.
LED technology has been around for a long time. I have seen where LEDs used about 100 – 150 kilowatt-hours when the old incandescent used about 700 – 800 kilowatt-hours. However upfront cost and application may prevent them from competing with HPS outdoor lighting. For example, utilities are using LEDs in traffic lights, but HPS for street lights. I would still use HPS for parking lot flood lights today until the LED light can be proven to be more efficient for that application.
