Mini Clubman Automatic Gearbox – Orange Light Comes On?

I’ve got a chance to buy a classic Mini Clubman automatic but the previous owner is telling me that when the car idles the an orange light is coming on the dashboard. They say that mini specialist has indicated this is not a problem and its just the gearbox working against the brakes.

Sound like the seller is trying it on with you, I think the light he is talking about is the oil pressure light and that there may be a problem with the main bearings on the engine.
Try keeping the car in park and reving the engine, if the light stays on then there may be some truth in what he is saying. Due to the drag from the gearbox it is possible that the engine is idling at below the required speed again resulting in low oil pressure.
Just be a bit careful and make sure you don’t pay over the odds for the car.
Also remember that a mini is dead easy to work on, part are cheap so even if its an engine re-build don’t be to worried about it.
