Ionizing Glowing
How do these Himalayan salt lamps work ?

Is it the heat from the bulb/tea light that makes the salt become ionized and give off the positive ions? Although I find the glow from my salt lamp tea light holder very chilled and relaxing, it sometimes gives me a headache!

Based on the link below, I’m inclined to think they don’t work at all.

* Their explanation of the EM from computer monitors doesn’t point out that their explanation only applies to CRT’s, and that flat panel displays operate very differently and don’t rely on large magnetic fields.

* When they say the lamp warms up, they say the salt becomes moist and that causes a field of ions to build. While salt is made up of ionically bound ions, it doesn’t say how these ions in turn ionize the air around them.

* The bit about “visible light reorganizing the epidermal layer of the skin” is pure garbage.

Negative ions may do what they do, but their explanation doesn’t inspire me any confidence that salt lamps do anything whatsoever other than giving of a pleasant color of light. Buy one if you think it looks nice, but I’m not inclined to believe any health benefits.
