those are used to step down the ac voltage from 230v to some where around 30 volts no?
then what happens to the stepped up current on the secondary side?
it could damage the components of the circuit no?

true, although 5 volts is more common. Note that transformers work with only AC and electronic circuits work only with DC, so there is a conversion process.
false, current is only used when needed. In other words, a transformer that has a rating of 5 volts at 20 amps is quite happy delivering only 1 amp if that is all the load asks for. Change the load, and it will deliver 20 amps.
