Cast iron pot with rust?
So I have seasoned and used the cast iron pot I asked about in my last question (asking was it safe) however the rust is very deep in some spots and would require a drill. Is it unsafe to use it for cooking with the rust spots still in it, after seasoning over them?
I already cleaned the pot with salt, oil and steel wool, and the spots I’m worried about are deeply pocked. I just use it for boiling water and tea, so I think I’d be able to see/taste if there was significant iron leaching.
If it doesn’t taste like the rust, it will be fine. This happened to me as well and I ended up using the pan and eventually the rust went away, seemed odd but was thrilled. I would keep the pan oiled really well in between using it. Good Luck.
