Sports Unravel-History of Sports
The history of sports probably is as far as the existence of man as instinctively active and purposive beings. It is a way for ancient people to master their nature and given environment. Tracing back the history of sports alone can teach us a great deal about social changes and the nature of sports itself.
Antiquity of sports dates back as early as 4000bc, gymnastic is China, polo in Persia, hurling in Ireland and rugby in Rome. In ancient Greece, depictions of ritual sporting events are seen in the Minoan art Bronze Age Crete around 2700- 1450 BC. It mainly included religious bull-leaping and possibly bullfighting. Some of the most prestigious games received the Pan-Hellenic status. High-profile athletes were like modern celebrities in ancient Greece, they were not being paid with money, and instead, they receive a wreath and compete for glory. Regular sports events included musical, reading and other non-athletic contest.
During the middle ages, probably seven hundred years ago, entire villages have competed with each other in rough and sometimes violent ballgames in England and Ireland. However, the game of Calcio Florentino in Florence, Italy was kept for the aristocrats. Only the aristocrats throughout Europe had the privileged of playing it. Horse Racing, in particular, was a favourite of the upper crowd in Great Britain, with Queen Anne establishing the Ascot Racecourse.
With the modern history, influence of British sports and their rules began to spread across the world in the late 19th and early 20th century, predominantly association football. A number of major teams in another place in the world still show these British origins in their names, such as AC Milan in Italy, Corinthians in Brazil and Athletic Bilbao in Spain.
With the introduction of mass media and globalization, professionalism became widespread in sports. This advance sports popularity in general. Conceivably in a reaction to the demands of present-day life, there have been developments in sports that are best described as post-modern.
