How to build a train track shelf for my son’s model train set?
I’d like to have the tracks go around his room. I have to have the shelf because the ceiling is to high to suspend the tracks from there. Thank you!
The ceiling is about 14 feet high in his room. So I just want it above door level. He is old enough to put the train back on the tracks if it happens to fall off.
I did a 2 foot shelf all around the MY bedroom. I used simple standard L-brackets screwed into the studs every other stud (32 inches). I attached 1×3 inch boards to the TOP of the brackets to support my bench-work.
“Above door level” is a little HIGH… unless the shelf is only a few inches wide !! I mean that is 6’8″ up and even for ME at 6ft tall, I’d barely be able to see the train !!
It’s not too difficult to build a swing or lift-out bridge to span the door way !!
